2 students from stage 5 (Years 9 & 10) who demonstrate the highest potential to work with ICTs in their software tutorials, will be offered a work experience placement at City Desktop.

Students in South Western Sydney Region are invited to enter the Student ICT Design Challenge 2010. This competition aims to highlight the ICT expertise, skills and talents of students in the South Western Sydney Region.

Students are invited to choose one of the software programs available on the DER NSW laptop devices or on the standard NSW DET image on their school’s computers, then create a software tutorial demonstrating how to use the program using Adobe Captivate. The tutorial should instruct on how to use a particular function in one of the software applications. Entries submitted will be judged and prizes awarded for the top two software tutorials in each category. Entries of a high standard will made available throughout the region, to assist teachers and students to learn the new suite of software available to schools.

Learning opportunities for students and staff

South Western Sydney Region will provide training in the use of Adobe Captivate software to support this regional initiative. Several training options are available:

• Teachers accompanied by up to four students each, are invited to attend hands-on training workshops at various regional offices on Wednesday 18 August 2010, Thursday 19 August 2010, Thursday 2 September 2010, Monday 6 September 2010 or 7 September 2010.
  
• Training via 1 hour video conferences on Monday 20 September 2010 at 11:00am or 12:30pm.
• In-school training and class support conducted by a regional consultant (limited availability) on Thursday 26 August 2010, Wednesday or 22 September 2010 or Monday 18 October 2010.
