This workshop offers participants a case study of enhanced ICT integration that resulted in significantly improved engagement and educational outcomes for students with moderate to severe disabilities and autism. The workshop will specifically focus on the curriculum based use of Interactive Whiteboards, Blogs and Web 2.0 technologies in learning and assessment. The case study will be supported by photos, work samples and footage of the students using and enjoying these technologies in a meaningful way to highlight the undeniable benefits of effective ICT integration for students with a disability.
Target audience: Mainstream and SSP teachers, Executive staff and Principals working with students who have a moderate to severe disability and/or autism. |

Firstly, the workshop will quickly introduce the SMART board and its functions. Focusing on how to engage and motivate the most hard to reach child, we will focus on how the SMART Interactive whiteboard can aid teachers to create lessons and activities which will include and promote:
• Catering for pupils with specific learning styles, V.A.K. (Visual, Auditory & Kinaesthetic), and integrating these in our lessons
• quality teacher/pupil interactions,
• active participation,
• personalisation,
• autonomy and ownership of learning,
• relevance to pupils experiences,
• modelling,
• the ability to absorb, recall and deploy past learning,
• Appealing to the ‘digital natives’.
Delegates will be able to use some of the SMART interactive lesson ideas and implement them in their subject areas.

One of the greatest minds ever, valued imagination over knowledge and passion over indifference. In this workshop you will learn what podcasts are, how to create a podcast and how podcasts can unleash your pupils' passion. We will briefly look at the blogs that will provide the platform or stage for your student's creations. We will also look at the strong link between podcasting and literacy. Finally we will look at ways to use podcasts to engage even the most reluctant reader and writer.

This workshop will provide hands-on professional learning in the use of dynamic mathematics software, GeoGebra and interactive whiteboard (IWB) software, ActivStudio. GeoGebra combines dynamic geometry software with a computer algebra system in one intuitive interface and has a growing wordwide community of users. ActivStudio can provide a tool for active and collaborative group learning using an IWB. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to:
• consider how teachers of mathematics and science can use interactive software to engage and challenge students in Years 7 to 12;
• develop foundation level skills in creating a dynamic resource with GeoGebra and use ActivStudio to plan a science experiment;
• review a range of innovative learning resources from the Centre for Learning Innovation that promote active and game-based learning.
